It is with deep sorrow that the Department of Media Study acknowledges the passing of Tony Conrad. Best known as an experimental musician and filmmaker, he was also a painter, writer, video and performance artist, and eminent professor, mentor and teacher. There will be a public tribute to his extraordinary life and work at 6:30PM 05/02/16, at the Center for the Arts¨ North Campus¨ UB.
Tony Conrad was a SUNY Distinguished Professor and a faculty member in DMS for 40 years. He was a larger-than-life media pioneer: key in the establishment of Media Study at Buffalo, internationally recognized as an experimental artist, and enthusiastically dedicated to the arts in Western New York for four decades. A sound performance and screenings will be presented as the last event in this year’s PLASMA series, a series focused on Media Arts and Scholarship which was envisioned and brought into existence through his personal efforts. PLASMA events are free and open to the publicÍž everyone is warmly invited to this special tribute.
